For a guy who made his name starring in Hollywood blockbusters like Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Shia LaBeouf sure has a dark side. The actor, 26, released this week his latest directorial project, “Haunted Love,” an eerie, blood-soaked film set to the song of the same title by Future Unlimited and starring the band’s singer, David Miller, and LaBeouf’s actress girlfriend, Mia Goth.

In the moody, creeptastic work, Goth watches as Miller eats a poisoned meal and dies while a baby wails on the floor. The film also includes a scene of the actress giving birth in a bathtub filled with blood-reddened water. Modern, interpretative dance elements are heavily featured as well; interestingly, the actor did some modern dance himself — in the nude, no less — when he starred in the explicit Sigur Ros music video for “Fjogur piano” last summer.

The actor explained to the New York Times that his short film was inspired by the dancer Deena Thompsen and the music video director Alma Har’el, both of whom worked on the Sigur Ros video. “Working with them re-introduced me to dance as an emotive art form — last dance I [played around] with was the Tootsie Roll. The experience both in being around them and keeping in touch creatively inspired me to start writing a treatment, which quickly became a monologue of a scorned woman.”

The Method actor met Goth on the set of Lars Von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac, in which the two stars have non-simulated sex on camera. In August, LaBeouf told MTV News, “There’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.”

And convincing his girlriend to to star in his film was simple, he told the Times. “The casting was quite easy — Lars found a very special actress in Mia Goth. I pitched it to her on set. She agreed.”
