Listen up, boys! Nick Lachey offered his two cents of wisdom to today's biggest boy bands — and as it turns out, the 98 Degrees singer's advice has nothing to do with vocal prowess and everything to do with a certain pop princess.
"Stay away from Taylor Swift!" the 39-year-old singer joked in a recent interview with MTV. "She'll write a song about you … Oh! I'm too late on that one. I didn't get to [that advice] fast enough. [The song will] be a hit, but it will be about you."
Lachey's dig was likely a nod to Swift's ex, One Direction band member Harry Styles, who parted ways with the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer in early January following a rocky holiday getaway.
Swift, 23, has previously penned songs about her high-profile breakups with some of Hollywood's hottest hunks, including John Mayer (who once dated Lachey's ex-wife, Jessica Simpson), Jake Gyllenhaal and Joe Jonas, though she has consistently declined to reveal who the jab-heavy hits are about.
Lachey, who is reuniting with the 90s boy band to tour with fellow heartthrobs Boyz II Men and New Kids On the Block this summer, admitted that his advice isn't exactly needed, however.
"They're making money. They don't need our advice," he quipped. The singer — and father to son Camden, 6 months — is no stranger to mixing his personal and professional lives either. Lachey, who is now married to wife Vanessa Minnillo, once opened up his home to reality TV cameras for MTV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, with Simpson, 32.
"I'm very thankful we didn't have any of the Twitter and camera phones and all that stuff when we were going through it the first time cause that's a whole 'nother element that we didn't have to deal with," he said. "A lot of respect for these guys who have to deal with that as young people, that's really tough."
