Tom Sturridge isn't going to let a little cast drama dampen his experience on the Great White Way. Fresh off his Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, the "Orphans" star had nothing but praise for both his Broadway run and co-stars thus far.
"It's a totally different animal [than movies], but this experience has been, and still is, so magnificent," he told omg! exclusively at the Tony nominees press event Wednesday.
What's more, he doesn't think the issues between Alec Baldwin and former castmate Shia LaBeouf (who subsequently was replaced by Ben Foster) had anything to do with Baldwin's surprising lack of a nomination.
"I mean, I think there are two terrific actors in this play — and me," he quipped. "Having that group of people has been incredible, and so I don't think that [the drama] affected the nominations."
But Sturridge, who is probably best known as one of Robert Pattinson's closest friends, wasn't glued to the television to watch the nominees get announced.
"I was in bed," he explained. "I have a baby and it was my morning to lie in, so I didn't get up until like 11:30, and then I switched my phone on and checked my emails and I had like 15 emails and no one ever emails me. And I was so excited to have these emails, so I was already in an amazing mood and then I saw what the emails were about and I was dumbfounded."
So how did he celebrate the good news? "I got my daughter and my girl and had a big hug," he revealed. Just as a refresher, he's referring to his fiancee, Sienna Miller, and their nine-month-old daughter, Marlowe.
Regardless of whether Sturridge takes home the top prize on June 9 or not, one thing is certain: He hopes to be in more Broadway shows in the future.
"I'd love to, if they let me!" he declared. "I'd love to more than anything!"
