Freddie Prinze Jr. will return to TV on Season 9 of Bones.

Buffy's boys are joining forces! Freddie Prinze Jr.  will be guest starring on the ninth season of FOX's Bones, opposite wife Sarah Michelle Gellar's former Buffy the Vampire Slayer love interest, David Boreanaz. Prinze will play a CIA agent named Danny, an "armed and dangerous" former associate of Booth (Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel). (Boreanaz played vampire Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel.)

According to TV Line, which broke the news of Prinze's casting, his character will take an interest in Booth and Brenna's current murder investigation. Danny will be introduced in the Sept. 16 season premiere and may return for a multi-episode arc.

A teen heartthrob in the late '90s, Prinze has shied away from the limelight in recent years. He played Cole Ortiz on during the eighth and final season of FOX's 24 in 2010, and he guest starred in an episode of USA's Psych that same year. Since then, the California-born, New Mexico-raised star has been focused on his family with Gellar, 36. Married since 2002, they are parents to daughter Charlotte, 3, and son Rocky, 10 months.

Prinze also lent his talents to the animated feature Mass Effect: Paragon Lost in 2012, voicing the character of Lieutenant James Vega. He also voiced the character in the video game Mass Effect 3.
