Spike TV’s annual tribute to testosterone, the Guys Choice Awards, airs Wednesday evening — and with it comes a new batch of hot girls, manly men, and a few surprises.
Omg! was posted backstage for the jungle-themed bash, which saw honors for Ben Affleck, Jeff Bridges, Jamie Foxx, Vince Vaughn, and others. Here’s what you wonít catch when you tune in Ö
A super welcome. Henry Cavill was adorably shy on his first big industry gathering repping the upcoming Superman flick “Man of Steel.” Talk shows and press junkets are one thing, but it’s quite another to be a superhero in a room full of leading men who have been tested at the box office. In this particular sea of movie stars, Cavill got a warm welcome from all the guys that came through: Affleck, Mark Wahlberg, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Vin Diesel.
Clint Eastwood’s poison is … white wine. The actor came to present the Guy of The Year trophy (adorned with awesome antlers) to Affleck, and we couldnít help but overhear his drink order: chardonnay. Meanwhile, his “Trouble With The Curve” co-star and the newly minted Lois Lane ñ Amy Adams ñ preferred a gin and tonic.
Put your clothes back on, Gyllenhaal! Jake rolled to Sony Pictures Studios, where the show taped, in a dark leather jacket and a scruffy beard but, as only Spike can, the network quickly got the actorís gear off. Gyllenhaal climbed into a bathrobe and shaggy blond wig to impersonate Bridges in ìThe Big Lebowski,î to whom he presented the “Original Dude” trophy. We can only assume that one is eponymous. After his bit, Gyllenhaal wasted no time in disrobing — taking off his “Dude” duds en route to a backlot bathroom while production staff ogled him.
Ben and Vince = BFFAE. Ben Affleck and Vince Vaughn have never teamed up on the big screen, but it was totally bromantic backstage. The two men hugged, laughed and talked for nearly an hour. We can’t blame Vince if he was captivated — Affleck has really cleaned up since his post-Oscar beak. He’s hit the gym and perhaps the Grecian formula — there’s little gray left in his hair and he looks a lot leaner.
Ladies Choice. A group of female naval officers were in charge of a backstage photo booth and while they flexed with Vin Diesel, chuckled with Vaughn and even broke in Cavill, their hands-down favorite was Bradley Cooper. The ladies in uniform totally lost it over the A-list hunk, and his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse didnít seem to mind at all as she looked on.
Bonus: Even we didn’t see Jennifer Aniston. The actress came to present Jimmy Kimmel with “Funniest M.F.” but neither lingered backstage — we overheard that Kimmel and fiancÈe Molly McNearny split after the award was presented to have dinner with the “Horrible Bosess” star. Perhaps Justin Theroux made it a double date?
