Amanda Bynes will remain under observation for a little longer than she expected. After being placed on an involuntary 72-hour 5150 psychiatric hold earlier this week, a judge granted a request to extend her mental health evaluation by two weeks, TMZ reports. The 27-year-old actress' parents, Rick and Lynn, filed paperwork in California on Thursday, July 25, asking a judge to grant them temporary conservatorship over their daughter. If granted, they would be given decision-making authority over certain aspects of Amanda's life.
The Easy A star's lawyer argued that the two-week extension should be denied during a court hearing on Thursday, July 25. Doctors insisted they needed more time to properly diagnose Amanda, who was seen starting a small fire in a neighbor's driveway earlier this week.
During the incident, the former actress' pet Pomeranian was accidentally soaked in gasoline and burned. Amanda took her dog to a nearby liquor store, where she rinsed her furry friend off in the sink. Bonnie Braaten, whose driveway was set on fire, previously told Us Weekly that Amanda "was incapable of giving good answers" when police arrived.
PETA issued a statement regarding the well-being of Amanda and her dog on Wednesday, July 24. "This is a time for people to help Amanda Bynes, as she is not herself and going through a very difficult period. Although she truly seems to love her dog and is panicked at the thought of hurting him, her dog needs help right now, too, until Amanda can get back on her feet," the organization said. "PETA's interest during this difficult time is in finding this dear dog a stable, safe, and loving home that can offer consistent care."
Amanda is scheduled appear in a New York City courtroom on Aug. 26 to face charges of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and marijuana possession. She was arrested in late May after allegedly throwing a bong out of her 36th floor apartment window. She has denied all charges via Twitter.
