Nat Wolff is about to be everywhere. With four movies coming out this year — including the Tina Fey/Paul Rudd comedy Admission (opening Friday, March 22) and the R-rated Selena Gomez movie Behaving Badly — the 18-year-old Naked Brothers Band actor is poised for fame. And after spending time with Disney phenom Gomez, 20, he's ready for whatever life (or Hollywood) may throw at him.
"Selena is such a big star on a level that I'd never been around," he tells Us Weekly of his costar. "At [the] time [we were filming], she was dating Justin Bieber, so it was insane, like, the amount of people who'd be around…but she handled it with such grace and had such focus as an actress. If that ever happens to me, I have a good example in her of how to handle it."
That said, Wolff isn't about to go looking for superstardom. "I think because I live in New York and I still play basketball, and I still go to real high school, it's been easy for me to balance acting and music with just being a regular 18-year-old," he explains. "A lot of young people who want to get into the business want to be famous, and it's good for what it is, but it's really transient, and it's not something to strive for. The work is the most important."
Wolff has chosen his work — and his costars — well. "Tina and Paul were great to work with because they really put people at ease…I was super intimidated before I got there, but once I got there, they made me feel like I belonged there," he says of shooting Admission with Fey and Rudd. "Paul Rudd was just as friendly as he is in movies."
Wolff gained a lot of experience from both the film and his fellow actors. He even picked up a new, somewhat unusual talent. "Because of Admission, I spent a month learning ventriloquism," he reveals to Us.
"People talk about how if you play guitar, you get girls. And I play guitar and that didn't seem to do much — but the ventriloquism has really helped in the lady department," he jokes. "If there's a girl I want to impress, bring out the dummy. It's either going to work really badly or work well."
If it's the former, Wolff has a backup plan to woo the girl of his dreams. "My dad is really chivalrous…and I've heard a couple girls say, like, 'Chivalry is dead.' So I want to bring it back," he says. "You know, Justin Timberlake brought sexy back. I'm going to bring chivalry back."
