One Direction individually covers the September 2013 issue of British GQ, where the boy band members address everything from rumors of bisexuality to one night stands with fans. The “Best Song Ever” singers — Niall Horan, 19, Zayn Malik, 20, Liam Payne, 19, Harry Styles, 19, and Louis Tomlinson, 21 — also reveal how they hope to be remembered years from now.
In regards to his rumored relationship with British DJ Nick Grimshaw, Styles — who once dated Taylor Swift — tells the magazine, “Bisexual? Me? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’m not.” He then clarifies, “We’re not dating, no. We’re just friends.”
“I don’t want to be one of those people that complains about the rumors. I never like it when a celebrity goes on Twitter and says, ‘This isn’t true!’ It is what it is; I tend not to do that,” Styles explains. “The only time it gets really annoying is that if you get into a relationship and you get into a place where you really like someone and then things are being written in the papers that affect them and how they see you. Then it can get annoying.”
The magazine also asks the pop stars if it’s difficult to stay faithful to their girlfriends. Tomlinson, who has been dating college student Eleanor Caldor for more than two years, replies, “I don’t think it is. The type of girls that would sleep with you in a heartbeat aren’t the type of girls I’d want to take home anyway.”
Not that the boys have time to meet many women. “We go back on the road straight after a show and we’re gone,” says Horan. “I wish we did have time for girls and parties, but we don’t.” Payne adds, “Groupies? We don’t have time to party. . . Maybe we need someone to schedule that in for us.”
These days, the “What Makes You Beautiful” singers’ schedule is pretty jam-packed. “I’ve come to a point now where I just go wherever people tell me to go,” Payne says. “That’s what life is like. People say, ‘Go here,’ and I oblige. So long as you tell me what object to aim towards, I’ll just keep moving.”
When asked about their legacy, Tomlinson says he wants to be remembered “as a boy band that didn’t dance,” while Malik, meanwhile, jokes that he wants “a monument put up in Bradford.” According to Horan, however, “It would be great just to be remembered.”
