Jessica Simpson on Her Post-Baby Weight Loss: “I’m a Lot More Confident This Time Around”

Jessica Simpson says she feels "a lot more confident" about losing the baby weight after giving birth to son Ace

Jessica Simpson is experiencing major deja vu. After the May 1, 2012 birth of daughter Maxwell, the fashion mogul turned to Weight Watchers to help her shed the baby weight. But almost as soon as she'd dropped 70 pounds on the program, she learned she was pregnant with her second child. Now, four months after the birth of son Ace, she's a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers again and working hard to get her body back into pre-baby shape.

"When I had Maxwell I gained a lot of weight. More than I thought I would," she explained to Tumblr's MomFeeds blog in a new interview. "And when it came time to try to take it off, it felt overwhelming. Stepping on the scale and seeing that number was really scary."

"With a toddler on the run and an infant to look after," she continued, "I knew I needed a plan that's simple and fits into my life, along with the support that's so important to my success. I know Weight Watchers works, so I got on the plan again."

The 33-year-old mom of two feels pretty good about her progress thus far. "I'm a lot more confident this time around," she told MomFeeds. "With Maxwell I didn't think about the weight I was gaining, and the first time I stepped on a scale and looked at the number…I mean, that wasn't a number I had ever even considered…and I was faced with a pretty serious truth. But since I had already done Weight Watchers, I didn't put on as much weight with Ace and I just know a lot more now."

Indeed, Simpson told Us Weekly in August that she took better care of herself while pregnant with her son. "With Maxwell, I vegged out and kind of took it like a vacation," she explained. "With Ace, I was really active, going out for walks and watching what I ate. Even though I didn't feel very good, I had a healthier pregnancy."

That said, "I am just one of those pregnant women who gains a lot of weight," she told Us. "I have really big boobs. I have my curves. Even trying as hard as I did with Ace, I still gained — definitely not as much as with Maxwell, but still a significant amount."

Thanks to Weight Watchers, though, the former Fashion Star mentor has all the tools she needs to achieve her weight-loss goals. Her most important tool? A good support system.

"Most of the women in my group have been my friends for years," she tells MomFeeds. "Not only are we very close, but we're also all going through some of the same things in our lives. It makes it hard to not be accountable for what you're doing."

Simpson's fiance, former football player Eric Johnson, also helps keep the star motivated. "The great thing about Eric is that when he played football, he was always conscious of his weight and either gaining or losing, so he knows what it's like and he's helpful," she says. "Plus, he loves me and always makes me feel beautiful…so he's awesome."
