A double dose of congratulations is in order for country singer Chely Wright and her wife Lauren Blitzer Wright! The happy couple welcomed two healthy baby boys — identical twins! — in New York City on Saturday, May 18, Wright's rep confirms to Us Weekly.
"We are grateful for all the amazing medical care and the love and support of family and friends," the "Like Me" singer told Us, adding that their sons, named George Samuel and Everett Joseph, are "thriving."
Wright, 42, and Lauren, 31, a music executive, announced their exciting news during an interview on Howard Bragman's YouTube series, Gwissues, back in January (the pair tied the knot in August 2011.)
"They are due in July, but with identical twins you typically have to deliver a month early," she said at the time. "So, we're anticipating that I will be as big as a … bus or A-frame house by June."
"We feel like God blessed us with twins," she continued. "We feel our entire relationship has been blessed. We feel lucky and ready to take on the challenges."
Wright came out as gay publicly in 2010 and met Lauren just two weeks later. "Country music has been described as being about God and family and country," she said in an interview on the Today Show at the time. "And for some reason people think that you can't be gay and have those beliefs. That's why I have to do this. I have to be the one to step forward."
