Is history repeating itself? Just one day before canceling their 19-date tour due to a “deep rift within the band,” according to their rep, the Jonas Brothers banded together on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to perform at “We Day” in Minneapolis, Minn. During an interview with radio station KDWB, Kevin, 25, Joe, 24, and Nick, 21, were asked about why they took a three-year break before reuniting in 2012.
“We decided to take a break because, I think, in this crazy world that looks a lot of fun it’s also really kind of stressful and crazy at times,” Joe explained on behalf of his brothers. “For us, we were like, let’s not implode and let’s just take some time off and really kind of refocus on what we want to do.”
During the hiatus, Kevin married Danielle Deleasa (who is now pregnant with their first child), Joe released a solo album, Fastlife, and Nick formed his own blues rock band, Nick Jonas & the Administration.
“We had so many individual ideas — whether it was personal or business wise — that we wanted to venture out in,” Joe continued. “Having that time to do it was really refreshing. We always have heart for the band, but it’s always important for us as well to take time when it’s needed.”
According to KDWB, the brothers were “a little tense” when they arrived at their studio on Tuesday. The radio station also reports that the musicians left Minneapolis on separate planes.
The next day, the Jonas Brothers’ spokesman, Jesse Derris, confirmed to Us Weekly that the band was canceling their tour just two days before the first show. “There is a deep rift within the band,” Derris told Us. “There was a big a disagreement over their music direction.”
