Two years after his bright-yellow Lamborghini was stolen from a dealership in San Francisco, Guy Fieri is getting some much needed closure. On Monday, Oct. 28, the celebrity chef testified at the trial of Max Wade, the Marin County teen who is accused of stealing Fieri's expensive sports car in 2011 and then shooting at a romantic rival in 2012.
The Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives host took the stand inside the Marin County, Calif., courthouse for just a few minutes on Monday, confirming in his testimony that he did not know Wade and had not given anyone permission to take the car out.
Prosecutors allege that the defendant, now 19, stole Fieri's Lamborghini on March 8, 2011, in an attempt to impress a girl, Eva Dedier. A year later, Dedier and her then-boyfriend, Landon Wahlstrom, were sitting in Wahlstrom's truck when Wade allegedly rode up alongside them on a motorcycle and opened fire. He is being charged with the theft of the Lamborghini, as well as the attempted murder of both Dedier and Wahlstrom.
"This has got so many other facets to it that are far more important than my car," Fieri told reporters outside the courthouse (via NBC Bay Area). "My car is a very small, quite frankly inconsequential [part]. I mean, there's a bigger issue on the table."
The Food Network star, chef, and restaurateur noted that he received a lot of tips about his Lamborghini's whereabouts after it disappeared in 2011 but that he thought nothing of them until he learned of the charges against Wade.
"We would get calls all the time, I mean all the time," he explained. "My friends would call me and say 'Listen, I just saw your car on the freeway.' And I'm like, 'Believe it or not, there's more than one yellow Lamborghini probably in Northern California.' And people would call and we'd get reports, my attorney would hear about it. To come to find out that [Max Wade] was driving it…brave kid."
According to Fieri, the car was taken by the insurance company after it was discovered in Wade's possession. He misses it, but he's glad to put the case to bed.
"I'm just happy that it's done," he said of his testimony. "I missed the car, it was a great car. But move on."
