Sounds like Uncle Prince Harry caught Prince George in a good mood! Speaking with a group of children about his baby nephew at a charity event in London on Wednesday, Sept. 11, Prince William's younger brother revealed that he'd seen the month-and-a-half-old little bundle of joy smile for the first time just hours earlier.
"I've just literally seen him," the proud uncle, 28, told 9-year-old Nikki Christou at an awards ceremony for WellChild, an organization that helps severely ill children and their families. "It was the first time I've seen him smile."
Harry, a patron for WellChild, apparently told the kids that Prince George is often not awake when he visits. "He said he'd just come from seeing his nephew and he was having a bath, but normally when he sees him, he's usually sleeping or crying," Christou's mother told the U.K.'s Telegraph. "He said it was the first time he'd seen [the baby] smile. He seemed quite pleased."
Another mother — Mary Kirk, whose daughter Madison Kirk won the "Most Inspirational Child" award for the 3 to 6 age group — added: "He was talking about his nephew. He said it was lovely having a new nephew. He said it was fantastic."
Indeed, Harry used that same word to describe being an uncle in July, at the Sentebale "Stories of Hope" exhibition opening three days after Prince George's birth. "It's fantastic to have another addition to the family," he said at the time, noting that the newborn was crying when they first met. He added, jokingly: "I only hope my brother knows how expensive my babysitting charges are."
