The guest of honor has arrived! Kate Middleton and Prince William made a low-key entrance with the little man of the hour, Prince George, at St. James’s Palace in London at two minutes past 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The proud parents were seen arriving in a dark blue sedan for the much-anticipated royal christening of their firstborn son, whom they welcomed on July 22 of this year. Moments later, they emerged inside the courtyard with baby George — resplendent in his christening dress — as the group greeted clergy outside the entrance.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 31, looked gorgeous and ladylike in a cream-colored skirt suit with a ruffled jacket, which she paired with a matching fascinator. Her husband, meanwhile, looked dapper in a dark suit and pale-blue tie.

They’re “very excited,” a source tells Us Weekly of the happy couple, who showed off their baby son in his royal christening gown. Adds another source: “Prince George has been good as gold today.”

The royal christening robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was originally created in 1841 for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal.

The gown was worn for all royal christenings until 2008, when Queen Elizabeth II commissioned Angela Kelly to make a replica of the robe in order to preserve the original. James, Viscount Severn, was the first member of the royal family to wear this gown at his christening at the private chapel at Windsor Castle on April 19, 2008.

As previously reported, the heir to the British throne is set to be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, in a 45-minute ceremony at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, chosen in part because of its connection to Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana. (Her body was kept there for some time before her funeral.)

“It’s a special place for William,” a source shared with Us. “Having the service there is his way of involving his mother, who he so wishes could be here for all of this.”

Close members of both families are in attendance, including George’s great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, his grandfather Prince Charles, his uncle Prince Harry, and his maternal grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton, along with the Duchess’ siblings, Pippa and James.
