Best throwback ever? Fans of Teen Witch probably remember several memorable musical scenes from the 1989 comedy-fantasy classic — “Popular Girl,” anyone? — but one that remains at the top of the list includes a certain rap number played out by the witch’s best friend sidekick Polly, played by Mandy Ingber. Now, 25 years after the TV movie first premiered, Ingber has recreated her rap session “Top That!”
“Well, this is a little gift to you from my sordid past for all of you Teen Witch fans,” the actress teased viewers in a new video for Glamour. In the clip, Ingber raps the song while looking off camera to possibly look at cue cards of the lyrics. After the energetic performance and applause from the camera crew she adds, “Thanks, I bet you could do it better than me!”
Ingber isn’t the only one from the cast to relive a favorite moment from the TV movie. It was revealed last month that Robyn Lively (who played the titular sorceress Louise in the film) reenacted the entire musical number from the end of the ’80s film during famous little sister Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ surprise Sept. 9, 2012 wedding.
“My younger sister and younger brother [Eric Lively] are huge Teen Witch fans,” Lively said during a Pop My Culture podcast last month. “So for my younger sister’s wedding, my younger brother and I got together and figured out how to do that last scene, the ‘Finest Hour’ dance.”
The dance was a complete shock to the new Mrs. Reynolds. She added: “We were watching it and pausing it. I have the best video and photos of this!”
As for Ingber, she’s since moved on from her acting years and has gone on to become a known Hollywood yoga instructor. One of her clients and good friends include Jennifer Aniston. Try to top that!
