Simon Cowell tells Us he's "happy and excited" about becoming a dad

Mum's no longer the word! Simon Cowell is finally opening up — kind of — about his feelings on becoming a dad with New York City socialite Lauren Silverman. Walking the red carpet at the London premiere of One Direction's new movie, This Is Us, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, the 53-year-old Brit told Us Weekly that he's looking forward to fatherhood.

"I'm happy and excited," he said at the Empire Leicester Square Cinema, where the premiere was held. "It's a great time in my life."

Until now, the American Idol alum has been tight-lipped about Silverman's pregnancy. At an X Factor TCA panel on Aug. 1 — one day after Us Weekly exclusively revealed that Cowell is expecting a baby with the estranged wife of his former friend Andrew Silverman — the star expertly dodged questions about his personal life.

"Am I missing something?" he quipped when offered congratulations by reporters. Then, taking on a more serious tone, he said: "Unfortunately, I have to keep this for the moment private. It's just one of those things. But thank you very much anyway."

Later, he added: "I would love to [talk], but I have to respect a lot of people's feelings right now. There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here."

The situation is indeed complicated. But at least one thing has been resolved: Mom-to-be Silverman settled her divorce on Aug. 14, putting an end to her more than 10-year marriage. (She and her ex share son Adam, 7.)

"The matter has been resolved and the parties have moved on," her attorneys, Robert Cohen and Bernard Clair told Us.

Asked at the This Is Us premiere whether he might consider documenting the drama in a movie about his own life, Cowell was emphatic in his response. "Are you crazy? Forget it!" he said. "Never going to happen."
