Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are no doubt breathing sighs of relief today — they are finally free of one another after reaching a settlement in their long and contentious divorce battle.

Perhaps the most notable thing about their drawn-out divorce — which was settled Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court — was that it lasted seven times longer than their 72-day marriage.

Let’s look back at a timeline of their brief marriage … and prolonged parting.

November 2010: After briefly dating male model Gabriel Aubry (Halle Berry’s ex), Kardashian meets the NBA basketball player while she’s filming “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” and they start dating. Soon after, she is seen in the stands at one of his Nets games sending him “I love you” signals with her hands.

February 7, 2011: They go public with their romance by posing for photographers at a Prince concert in Manhattan.

May 18, 2011: Kardashian arrives at her Beverly Hills home to find Humphries in her bedroom, on bended knee, with “Will You Marry Me?” written out in rose petals. He gave her a custom-designed, 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring.

August 20, 2011: After just a 90-day engagement, the couple tie the knot in an over-the-top affair at an estate in Montecito, California. The star-studded event was filmed for a two-part, four-hour reality TV special on E!.

October 9 and 10, 2011: “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event” airs and it’s a ratings hit, drawing 4.4 million viewers the first night and 4 million the second.

October 31, 2011: After just 72 days of marriage, Kardashian files for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and lists their separation date as that day. Humphries issues his own statement, saying, “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work. “The couple has a pre-nup, making it seem that it would be a quick and easy divorce.

November 1, 2011: Kardashian speaks out about the split for the first time in a post on her blog. While she insisted that she “married for love,” she admits she “got caught up with the hoopla. … I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have.”

November 7, 2011: Kardashian visits a “devastated” Humphries at his home in Minnesota. While there is speculation they would possibly reunite, it is reported the visit is to try to ease hostility between them as it was already becoming contentious.

December 1, 2011: Humphries files a response to Kardashian’s legal papers, seeking an annulment — rather than a divorce. In a bold move, he claims their 72-day marriage was based on “fraud” with Kardashian trying to boost the ratings of her reality TV shows. At his next few basketball games, fans boo Humphries from the stands.

March 2012: Rumors swirl that Kardashian is dating Kanye West after he flies her to Paris for a fashion show. While she initially plays coy about the romance, they go public the next month.

May 4, 2012: In court to hash out the divorce settlement, Kardashian’s lawyer Laura Wasser tells the judge that Humphries is stalling the proceedings, which should be quick and easy because the couple — who is not there — has a prenup. “I feel that [Humphries’] personal feelings and maybe some media drive is keeping this case alive,” Wasser says.

August 15, 2012: Lawyers for the couple face off in court again. This time, Humphries’ camp blames the opposing side for delaying the process. “I don’t want to use the word ‘uncooperative,’ but they are not making the process easier,” Humphries’ attorney, Marshall Waller, told the judge.

November 28, 2012: Over a year after Kardashian filed for divorce, both legal teams meet in court again. Waller continues to push for an annulment and trial while Wasser moves to speed up the divorce settlement, noting, “Miss Kardashian is now handcuffed to Mr. Humphries.”

December 30, 2012: During one of his concerts, West announces that Kardashian is pregnant.

January 24, 2013: Following the baby news, Kardashian’s lawyer files a motion to set a trial date as soon as possible — or grant a legal end to the marriage while the couple’s financials are sorted out. “I do not want to be married to [Humphries] when I have my baby,” Kardashian states in the declaration in support of her motion.

February 4, 2013: Humphries’ lawyer files a response, saying they are not ready to go to trial, and blasting Kardashian for using her pregnancy as a reason to accelerate the divorce. “What is really going on here is that an ‘urgency’ in the form of an apparently unplanned pregnancy, something the Respondent had nothing to do with, is perceived by Plaintiff as an opportunity to gain a litigation advantage by trying to force this court to prematurely set this matter for trial,” Waller writes in the filing.

February 8, 2013: Kardashian’s lawyer fires back in a 217-page response. Humphries “cannot continue to hold the Court and [Kardashian] hostage through his own lack of diligence in preparing his case for trial,” Wasser writes.

February 14, 2013: Humphries’ lawyer asks to be removed from the case, citing “irreconcilable differences” which caused a “irremediable breakdown” of their attorney-client relationship.

February 15, 2013: The judge finally sets a trial date — May 6.

April 12, 2013: For the first time since in 17 months, Humphries and Kardashian are supposed to come face to face in court for a mandatory divorce settlement conference. He is a no-show. The judge sets a sanction hearing to consider fining him for missing the appearance.

April 19, 2013: Kardashian accompanies her lawyer to court and both sides announce to the judge that they’ve reached a settlement. They are granted a dissolution of marriage — not an annulment — due to “irreconcilable differences.” The court must sign off on the judgment by June 19. Humphries again skips the hearing.

Humphries, who was reportedly seeking $7 million from his now ex-wife, will receive no money and each party will pay their own attorney’s fees, according to TMZ. The site also reports that Kardashian’s legal team asked the judge to drop any potential penalties Humphries was going to receive for being a no-show in court on April 12.
