Jimmy Fallon tells the TODAY show that he and wife Nancy Fallon used a surrogate to have their baby girl Winnie after "trying a bunch of things."

Jimmy Fallon's little miracle baby! After surprising his fans with the announcement that he welcomed his first child, daughter Winnie, with wife Nancy Fallon on July 23, the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon host is opening up about his daughter's birth. In an upcoming interview with the TODAY show, the 38-year-old new dad reveals that his baby girl was born via surrogate.

"My wife and I had been trying a while to have a baby," Fallon told Savannah Guthrie, in a pre-taped interview airing next week. "We tried a bunch of things — so we had a surrogate."

The couple, who wed in 2007, decided to keep the pregnancy a complete secret. "We said, 'We're not going to tell anybody,'" Fallon explained. "It'd be just more fun if it's just private between me and my wife. And then we get to introduce her to everybody."

The first-time parents welcomed Winnie Rose at 6:21 a.m. on July 23. "When it happened we were in shock. We were like, 'Alright, who do we tell? Who's going to be mad at us if this gets out,'" the comedian recalled. "We had to call everybody and it's so emotional!"

One day after his daughter's birth, Fallon shared the news during his opening monologue on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. "It's been a crazy couple days, well actually, just one day . . . It's very taxing on the fathers. I don't know how it is for the mothers, but very taxing," he joked. "I'm emotionally drained. I'm a father of a beautiful baby girl. She's so cute."

In an interview with Parade magazine in 2011, Fallon expressed a desire to become a father. "I want to be a dad. That's floating to the top of my list," he shared. "I think it's such an important thing. I'm at the age where everyone has kids, and I ask them, 'Is it like a puppy?' And they go, 'It's 10 times a puppy.'"
