Oscars 2015: Why Julianne Moore (in a Black Dress) Is Predicted to Win Best Actress

Fun fact: Julianne Moore is most likely to win the 2015 Best Actress Oscar because her name starts with a J.

Based on her name alone, Julianne Moore has this in the bag!

Using “fashematics,” the data scientists at Lyst found a mathematical equation that proved that there is indeed a link between an actress’ name, the color of the dress she wears, and the jewelry she ices it up in, and whether she’ll be called up to the stage on Academy Awards night.

For instance, the luckiest letter for a nominated actress’ name to start with is J, as there have been 15 Best Actress winners with J names so far (including Julia Robets, Jodie Foster, and Jane Fonda, to name a few). Bodes well for Moore!

As for dress designer, ladies wearing Armani have been the luckiest—including the 2014 Best Actress winner, Cate Blanchett. Still, ladies wearing Christian Dior have been snagging the gold since 1961, when Elizabeth Taylor won for Butterfield 8.

And color counts, too! Fifteen of the women who walked away with the Best Actress Oscar were clad in black, not to mention eight Best Supporting Actress winners. Second most winning? Gold, followed by blue, silver, and multicolor ensembles. (The one color no one has ever won while wearing: brown.)
