Lorde’s Straightened Hair at the 2014 Grammys: Details from her Stylist!

Lorde performs at the Grammy Awards on January 26, 2014
For the 2014 Grammys, first-time nominee and winner Lorde straightened her usually curly hair into soft textured waves.

In a night where predictable styles reigned (Taylor Swift in sequins! Beyonce in a body-hugging gown!), at least one star took a chance at the 2014 Grammys on Jan 26 in Los Angeles.

Triumphant newcomer Lorde straightened her signature curly hair for her first time at the Grammys — and the new style (and those two awards) looked good on her!

Celeb hairstylist Jen Atkin created the softer style for the 17-year-old phenom and is spilling the beans on how she switched up Lorde's look.

"Lorde has this amazing texture and movement in her hair naturally, and for the Grammys, we wanted to try a slightly different look, but within the same vibe of her natural texture," Atkin tells Us Weekly of the New Zealand native, who performed her smash "Royals."

To achieve texture and natural movement, Atkin began with Clear Scalp and Hair Therapy Damage and Color Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. "It's so important to have a solid foundation for styling, and this combo makes for just that," Atkin says.

She then towel-dried the hair and sprayed Sachajuan's Ocean Mist onto strands for texture and dried with a T3 Featherweight 2 Dryer and Sonia Kashuk brush. Once hair was smooth, Atkin created waves from the mid-lengths to the ends with the GHD Tri-Zone Flat Iron. She finished with a nickel-sized amount of Oribe Fiber Groom to "rough up ends and add a little separation."
