After a string of recent arrests, Nicholas Brendon has checked into rehab to seek help for depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse problems, his rep announced in a statement posted to the actor's Facebook page on Monday, June 1.
According to the post, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, 44, is being treated at a facility in California. "He's taking the steps necessary to better his health and give himself, and his fans, the gift of a healthy lifestyle," the statement read.
The post went on to acknowledge Brendon's past troubles, which include three arrests this calendar year alone, as well as a short-lived marriage to Moonda Tee and a brief stint in treatment last fall.
"He has been aware of his problems for some time — and with each new challenge, he gained a greater understanding of what needed to be done to overcome these obstacles and move forward with his life," his rep shared on Facebook. "Since his arrest last October, Nicky had tried several treatment methods — from therapy, to outpatient services — only to realize recently that he needed to take an extended break and treat the underlying issues of his illnesses."
With that in mind, Brendon will be taking off the months of June and July, after which he "has plans to return to the [convention] circuit," the rep said. "We ask that this [Facebook] page be filled with positive messages as we support Nicky on his road to recovery…Thank you for all of your love and support of all things Nicky."
Brendon previously entered rehab in 2004 and 2010.
