Griffin, 54, tweeted on Thursday night to explain her surprising decision, which followed Osbourne's dramatic exit last month. "When I chose to step into the shoes of my beloved Joan Rivers…I was thrilled to continue her legacy as a woman being brash and eccentric on television," she wrote. "I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it's time to move on."

BuzzFeed reported Friday, Mar. 13, that Griffin had sent out an email to a list of undisclosed recipients, requesting their support on social media. (It remains unknown whether the celebrities above received this email.)

"I’m reaching out to you because I think you will understand why I have made this decision and I am asking for your support via Twitter, etc.," Griffin wrote to pals. "IF you are comfortable. I admire you & your work and hope that you can stand by me."
