Amy Adams’ Today Show Appearance Cancelled After Sony Hack Silence: Details

Amy Adams
Amy Adams was booted from the Today show.

Woman of steel! Amy Adams stood her ground and it cost her some serious nationwide publicity.

The Big Eyes actress, 40, was scheduled to make an appearance on the Today show this week, but her appearance was pulled after she refused to discuss one very hot-button media topic.

Adams was reportedly told by the NBC morning program that she would be asked about the widespread hacks of Sony Pictures Entertainment, as well as the documents and details that were leaked.

Sources tell Us Weekly that Adams said she didn't want to discuss the matter, and as a result, the Today show chose not to do her interview.

"Amy's segment was pulled very suddenly after she expressed that she'd rather not discuss the Sony hack," an insider tells Us. "She was not aggressive or freaking out… It is unfortunate. Amy didn’t do anything wrong and they pulled the interview."

The Today show painted a different picture, mentioning so-called "demands."

"As a news program, the Today show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews," a rep for the Today show tells Us Weekly in a statement. "In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made, and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview."

A show insider adds to Us, "As a professional courtesy, Amy and her team were told well in advance that she might get asked about Sony, and that it was entirely up to her whether she wanted to answer."

While she had little to say about it, Adams was directly involved in the Sony leaks. One of the many embarrassing revelations that came out of the hack dealt with the salaries for her Oscar-winning movie American Hustle. Emails from Sony's execs showed that Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, two female stars of the acclaimed David O. Russell-led film, were paid significantly less than any of the three male stars: Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jeremy Renner

Adams, as well as other stars involved in the leak such as Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, and Leonardo DiCaprio, chose not to comment on the controversial details that were unearthed.

“We firmly stand behind Amy Adams," a representative for The Weinstein Company, which is distributing the star's movie Big Eyes, tells Us Weekly in a statement. "We’ve been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable, and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show."
