Derek Hough Skipping Dancing With the Stars 10th Anniversary Special Due to Foot Injury

Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough can't participate in the show's 10th anniversary special due to an injury.

So much for a reunion! The upcoming Dancing With the Stars 10th anniversary special is bringing back some of your favorite celebrities from the past decade of the reality competition. Unfortunately, five-time champion Derek Hough won't be participating due to a last-minute injury, and fellow pro Sasha Farber is dancing in his place, Us Weekly has learned.

The fan favorite pro was supposed to pair up with Maria Menounos and some of his other former partners for the special, which is taping on Tuesday, April 21, but a foot injury following the April 20 DWTS performance show sent the 29-year-old to the hospital overnight.

"Long night in the ER with @derekhough nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother," tweeted fellow DWTS pro Mark Ballas, along with a photo of Hough in a wheelchair that he has since deleted (but was captured for posterity by ET).

"He can't dance tonight — hurt himself in rehearsals last night," a show source told Us Weekly, and the prognosis isn't looking good for Monday's regular DWTS with partner Nastia Liukin, either. "Not sure if he can dance next Monday or not," the source added.

Season 14 fourth-place finishers Hough and Menounos were secretly rehearsing for a top-secret performance during the May special, Us Weekly confirmed. Menounos had posted photos from rehearsal with another of Hough's former celeb partners, season 18 runner-up Amy Purdy, and finally posted a video practicing (and falling down) with her teammate the morning of April 21.

The star-studded hourlong DWTS anniversary event is set to air on Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, and will feature a dance showdown between season 18 winners Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and reigning champions Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson, along with appearances from several other former competitors who have been spotted back at the studio to prepare for the special.

Season 12 second runner-up Chelsea Kane posted pics after practicing with former partner Ballas, and Hough's most recent co-victor Amber Riley was spotted heading into the studio with the other DWTS alums.
