Moving on with her head held high! Sheryl Underwood revealed why she turned down the opportunity to be in the 2001 film The Queens of Comedy during The Talk’s secret week on Thursday, Sept. 18. As it turns out, it was an unexpected phone discussion between her potential costars that led to her decision.
“There’s a conference call. I dialed in [and] I hear Sommore, Adele Givens and Laura Hayes all talking about me,” the 50-year-old comedienne told her co-hosts. “I hear discussions about my appearance. I hear discussions about my ability.”
“I was startled and hurt, but I have to say this — I was so shocked and hurt that I could not un-mute my phone and say, ‘Hey b—h I hear you!'” she continued with a laugh. “I stayed on all of the call with my phone on mute, and I took notes. Rarely would we hear someone talking about us and saying what they truly feel about us.” She added: “I was bruised, but I wasn’t broken.”
The Queens of Comedy was a spin-off of the 2000 movie The Original Kings of Comedy. The raunchy movie followed Sommore, Givens, Hayes, and Mo’Nique’s stand-up performances at the Memphis Orpheum Theatre.
Despite her hurt feelings, Underwood said that she has since forgiven the ladies and doesn’t hold any resentment.
“I know you’re probably thinking, why am I saying this now?” she said on the CBS daytime talk show. “Because I’m right where I belong.”
