Paying tribute. Liam Neeson took in a Broadway show on Thursday, Jan. 8, watching the revival of Cabaret 17 years after his late wife Natasha Richardson starred in the revival of the celebrated musical.

“Liam came with his sons to see the show,” a source tells Us Weekly. The Taken 3 actor is the father to sons Micheál, 19, and Daniel, 18, whom he welcomed with Richardson before her death in 2009. “The show is obviously very special to him.”

Richardson, who died at the age of 45 after suffering a head injury in a skiing accident, won the Tony Award in 1998 for her work playing the female lead Sally Bowles in Cabaret. The show originated on Broadway in the 1960s and inspired a subsequent 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli

The famous role is now played by Emma Stone, after big names like Michelle Williams, Molly Ringwald, Brooke Shields, and Lea Thompson previously took on the part. Stone stars in the current Broadway revival alongside veteran star Alan Cumming, Danny Burstein, and Linda Emond, before she is replaced by Sienna Miller next month.

Cabaret Cast
The cast members of Cabaret were visited by Liam Neeson and his sons.

“[They] went back stage to visit Alan,” the insider adds of the Neeson family’s time with Cumming, 49.

“It was lovely to see him,” Cumming tells Us Weekly of Neeson. “It was an emotional evening for him, but I was so glad to see him and it was such a lovely kind of moment. It made peace for me in a lot of ways. I think it was also lovely for Emma [Stone]. I gave her a picture from the Cabaret book of Natasha doing her makeup in the mirror. That’s on her wall. Liam saw that and they actually have that picture of her up in their house too. It was a very lovely thing.”

Neeson and Richardson were married for 15 years before the untimely death of the beloved actress, who was part of the famed British acting dynasty that includes mother Vanessa Redgrave, aunt Lynn Redgrave, and sister Joely Richardson. The two stars met on Broadway in the early 1990s, when they were both starring in Anna Christie, and exchanged vows in 1994.

“[Her death] was never real,” Neeson told Anderson Cooper last year about Richardson’s passing. It still kind of isn’t. “There’s periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years… anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I’m going to hear her.”
