Oh my god, Becky! Hoda Kotb took the stage for an episode of Lip Sync Battle airing on Thursday, April 30, and did Sir Mix-A-Lot — and maybe even Nicki Minaj — proud.
The Today show personality, 50, faced off against her Good Morning America rival Michael Strahan and dusted off Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 classic, “Baby Got Back,” which had a resurgence last year thanks to Minaj’s sample-heavy reinterpretation, “Anaconda.”
Kotb wore an off-the-shoulder black top paired with light-wash jeans and knee-high boots for her big performance, captivating the audience with her rap skills. She got into the song, bopping and miming the lyrics as audio played of Sir Mix-A-Lot spitting, “I like big butts and I can not lie / You other brothers can’t deny / That when a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist / And a round thing in your face / You get sprung, want to pull up tough / ‘Cause you notice that butt was stuffed / Deep in the jeans she’s wearing / I’m hooked and I can’t stop staring.”
The journalist shook her rear as she motioned at Strahan and host LL Cool J. Kotb and Strahan follow in the great tradition of stars who got loose on the Spike TV show, including past winners Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Anna Kendrick.
Kotb was in for some fierce competition in her round of the Tonight Show spin-off, as Strahan brought out some special guests. The former NFL star, 43, performed the 1990 jam “Poison” and enlisted the song’s originators, ’90s favorites and New Edition alums Bell Biv DeVoe.
