Not the cool mom! Kelly Ripa recently admitted that her 13-year-old daughter Lola isn’t her No. 1 fan — and she’s just fine with that!
“I don’t think she likes me, but I don’t care. I’m like, ‘I’m not your friend, I’m your mom,'” the Live With Kelly and Michael co-host said during The Wendy Williams Show on Tuesday, Nov. 4. “I just feel an obligation as her mom to keep her living in the real world. I don’t care who you are or what you do, if you’re a mom, you’re a mom.”
Lola’s disdain for her famous mom doesn’t come as a surprise to the TV personality. Ripa explained that she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, recently punished Lola for texting instead of studying Spanish. How did she find out? She glanced through Lola’s phone while she was taking a shower and saw Instagram comments pop up.
“She broke the rules,” Ripa said, explaining that the couple took away Lola’s phone and Internet privileges as punishment. “I’m like, ‘You’re half-Mexican. Your grandmother is a Spanish teacher. You’re not allowed to fail Spanish. It’s the one thing you’re not allowed to fail!'”
Married since 1996, Ripa and Consuelos are also parents to sons Michael, 17, and Joaquin, 11. “We’re very fair parents and we will give you certain freedoms, but you can’t have privacy and be on Instagram,” she added to Williams. “That’s not how it works.”
