Caitlyn Jenner Insists Kris Jenner Knew About Women’s Clothing, Breast Growth, Hormone Use

Vanity Fair cover star Caitlyn Jenner insisted ex Kris Jenner knew about her dressing in women's clothing, as well as her breast growth and hormone use long before the momager has claimed she discovered the truth; here are four ways they've disagreed.

Vanity Fair's July 2015 cover star Caitlyn Jenner (formerly known as Bruce Jenner) insisted that ex-wife Kris Jenner knew about her dressing in women's clothing and using hormones for years — long before when the momager has claimed she discovered the truth. Caitlyn opened up to the mag about the disparity between their stories, and what truly caused the end of their 23-year marriage.

Here, according to the Vanity Fair story, are four ways the former spouses have disagreed about what Kris knew and what Caitlyn claimed Kris knew.

The Hormone Use

Caitlyn, who gave an in-depth interview to Friday Night Lights author and journalist Buzz Bissinger, said Kris was cognizant of her hormone use since their first encounter in 1990.

"Jenner is emphatic that he told Kris he had taken hormones in the late 1980s up until the year they met, and was equally emphatic in saying there were other side effects besides breast growth," Bissinger writes. "He finds it implausible for her to suggest she was not aware of his gender struggle. But he does concede that 'probably a mistake I made was maybe not having her understand—not the severity of it but that this is a condition you cannot get away from. From that standpoint maybe I blew it away a little bit, sort of ‘This is what I do.'"

Kris, however, told the mag that Caitlyn said the hormone use was a thing of the past. "When I met Bruce, he told me that he had done hormones back in the early '80s," the mother of six said. "This was a conversation that took place in the early '90s. So, what he was telling me happened a decade earlier, and he never really explained it."

The Breast Growth

According to the mag, breast growth after taking hormones is "irreversible." Caitlyn claimed she took hormones up until the late '80s, something she supposedly told Kris when they first met.

At the time of their first encounter in 1990, Caitlyn said she was a "good solid B cup."

Kris had a different recollection of Caitlyn's body. She told the mag that there was a "little bit of a man boob situation," but "no B cup going on."

The Women's Clothing

Caitlyn claimed to VF that she dressed in women's clothing in front of Kris. Eventually, Kris created a set of rules for when Caitlyn could and couldn't dress in female garb. Caitlyn was permitted to dress as she pleased "when he was traveling on his own but not at home," Bissinger explains in the story.

Kris, however, claimed Caitlyn never dressed in women's clothing in front of her. "A few times I would see a suitcase or things lying around the house," Kris told the mag, adding that she never exercised their rules over Caitlyn.

"There wasn’t a gender issue. Nobody mentioned a gender issue," Kris told Vanity Fair. "Somebody mentioned that [he] at one point in his life liked to dress up."

The Cause of the End of Their Marriage

The couple married in 1991 after a seven-month whirlwind romance. "The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner…. Then really around the show, when that hit and she was running this whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint. The relationship was different," Caitlyn mused to the mag. "I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. Then I’d get upset and the whole relationship kind of fizzled."

According to Caitlyn, the momager could be harsh. “A lot of times she wasn’t very nice,” Caitlyn said. "People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money … all that kind of stuff."

Meanwhile, Kris said Caitlyn was angry and struggled with social anxiety during their final years of marriage. "He was married to me and he wasn’t who he wanted to be so he was miserable…. All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was pissed off," she claimed. "At the end of my relationship with Bruce he definitely had a lot of social anxiety… That was one of the reasons we were in a struggle at the end. We fought a lot because we would go out together and before we got to the end of the block we were in a fight because he started saying, ‘When can we go home?’"

Kris believed the end of their marriage was largely due to Caitlyn's gender dysphoria, which wasn't properly explained until after their divorce. "Why would you want to be married and have kids if this is what you wanted since you were a little boy?" she asked Bissinger rhetorically. "Why would you not explain this all to me?"

Caitlyn claimed the issue was more about Kris' treatment. "Twenty percent was gender and 80 percent was the way I was treated," the cover star noted.
