Ready to run? AMC released a new promo for its Walking Dead spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, and while it clocks in at just 30 seconds, it builds plenty of suspense — and terror!
The clip, posted to YouTube on June 19 and titled “Nick’s Escape: Fear the Walking Dead,” shows series star Frank Dillane literally running for his life after escaping through a window in a dilapidated building. Pausing only briefly to pull up his sagging jeans, he sprints down the street in a panic, looking back occasionally at the unseen evil behind him.
Centered in Los Angeles during the early days of the zombie apocalypse — thousands of miles away from the action in the original series, which takes place in the South — Fear the Walking Dead is set to premiere on AMC in August. Additional details are scarce, but executive producer Robert Kirkman (the creator of the TWD comic) offered some insight to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month.
“Everything that happens in Fear the Walking Dead is in the same universe as The Walking Dead,” he shared. “So any rule that we find out and anything they see in the early days is definitely something that was happening in the past of the other show.”
He continued: “These two shows are very intertwined in the same world, even if their characters aren’t necessarily going to interact because of geographical distances. So yeah, anything that you learn from Fear the Walking Dead will apply to the mythology of The Walking Dead and vice versa. So you are going to get to see that the characters learn that they’re all infected in a much different way.”
