Danielle Milian opens up about her unborn child's omphalocele diagnosis and the tough decision she had to make

Christina Milian’s pregnant sister, Danielle Milian, faced a tough decision when she went in for an ultrasound this past March — whether or not to terminate her pregnancy after learning her unborn child has omphalocele, a life-threatening birth defect where organs form outside the body. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, the E! reality star tells Us she couldn’t imagine not giving her son a chance at life.

“The tech said, ‘I can’t see the sex…because I am seeing…intestines,” the Christina Milian Turned Up star recalled. “I was told there’s almost a 53 percent chance of mortality,” the 29-year-old mom of two continued, explaining that her baby’s stomach, gallbladder, spleen, and liver could be seen outside its torso during the ultrasound. “It was hard,” Danielle recalled, adding that doctors advised she terminate the pregnancy.

After discussing her unborn child’s condition with her husband, Richard Dickerson, she decided she had to give her baby a chance at life.

“I said to [Richard], ‘Could you live with this?’ Because I know can. I know I could be in a hospital every day. As a mother, I will do whatever it takes for my child. I said, ‘I could spend two years in a hospital. Can you live with this?’ and Richard said to me, ‘Will he be able to fall in love?’ and ‘Will he be able to get a job?…If his disability would not affect his ability to fall in love, then there is absolutely no reason he doesn’t deserve life.’”

“He is like, ‘There are incredible things that happen every day. You never know where we are going to be 15 years down the line or anything, but you see there are connections and souls reach one another in ways that you just have no control over so it’s just’ — which is right. That made me feel so much better, that you know, in his head, there was no doubt about it unless it was going to affect his ability to be happy and lead somewhat of a normal life,” an emotional Danielle revealed.

“No matter how long he has in this world,” she concluded, “I could not imagine taking his chance away.”

Danielle, who is already mom to daughter Naomi, 12 months, and son Daniel, 8, is due in September. Due to her unborn baby's condition, she will likely give birth in August.
