Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor Joining Ian McKellen, Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast

UPDATE: Stanley Tucci and Ewan McGregor have also been added to the cast! The Devil Wears Prada star, 54, will play the grand piano Cadenza, while the Moulin Rouge! alum, 44, will become the candlestick Lumiere.

Put his service to the test! Ian McKellen just landed one charming new film gig, booking the role of Cogsworth the clock in Beauty and the Beast.

The beloved Brit, 75, is the latest star to join Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Variety reports. While he has yet to find his pal Lumiére, McKellen will take on the part of the witty grandfather clock that serves the Beast.

The Lord of the Rings star tweeted about the exciting news on Monday, April 13, sharing a link to an article about his role and writing, "Excited to make @DisneyPictures debut w/ director Bill Condon & cast including @EmWatson, @TheRealLukevans. Hoping all goes like clockwork!"

Condon (Dreamgirls) will helm Beauty and the Beast, with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the roles of Beauty and the Beast, respectively. The Harry Potter alum, 24, tweeted at McKellen after the news broke, sharing a cute photo of the cartoon Cogsworth and writing, "@IanMcKellen there couldn't be a better person for Cogsworth. Welcome! X."

The cast is rounded out by Kevin Kline in the role of Maurice, Luke Evans, who will play Gaston, and Josh Gad as his sidekick LeFou. Emma Thompson nabbed the part of the sweet Mrs. Potts, with Audra McDonald by her side as the Wardrobe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the Feather Duster. 

Due out on March 17, 2017, Beauty and the Beast is just one of many animation reboots that Disney has in the works for the coming years. Live-action plans are also being eyed for Mulan, The Jungle Book, and Dumbo
