The One Direction he’s headed is to daddy duty! Pop sensation Louis Tomlinson is going to be a father, and is expecting his first baby with his stylist friend Briana Jungwirth, a source confirms to Us Weekly.
“Louis didn’t expect this, but he’s excited for it now,” the insider tells Us. “He’s become very close friends with Briana this year and now they are looking forward to being parents. He’s definitely going to be there and be a great dad for their baby.”
The British pop star, 23, and Jungwirth, also 23, first met each other through mutual friends following his breakup this past March from his longtime love Eleanor Calder. “Louis and Eleanor split up two weeks ago,” Tomlinson’s rep told Us at the time. “They have not announced this as they wanted some privacy during this time.” The pair had been together since fall 2011.
Lucky for Tomlinson, his mom, Johanna, has plenty of experience with babies. The pop star’s parent is a formally trained midwife, who herself gave birth to twins (Tomlinson’s half siblings, Ernest and Doris) last February.
The same source tells Us that both Jungwirth and Tomlinson’s parents met in L.A. over Independence Day weekend. The insider says everyone got along.
While the two will share parenting duties, the source tells Us that Tomlinson is still very much single. “They aren’t together but are both happy about having a child,” the insider says. “They aren’t a couple and the pregnancy is in the very new [stages]. They just found out.”
Tomlinson’s shocking paternity news comes in the wake of another stunning One Direction reveal this past spring. In March, Zayn Malik called it quits, inciting outrage from Directioners worldwide. Later, Tomlinson expressed his sentiments about his former bandmate’s departure, sharing some harsh words via Twitter.
“There’s been a bit of back and forth,” Tomlinson said of the conflict in a May interview with James Corden. “We’re on quite good terms. I’ve never been one, never been very good at biting my tongue. Twitter’s great for saying things you probably shouldn’t but it’s all good now.”
While he has yet to address his latest news via Twitter, Tomlinson blasted a kid-related tweet on Monday, July 13. “I want to live in a world where every sick child can see a doctor,” he wrote alongside a video message for “#action1D.”
“I want every child to have the same chance that I did. Even now, lots of children cannot have treatment for basic illnesses,” he said in the accompanying clip. “When out to treat these illnesses, so let’s do it now.”
