She put a spell on everyone! Annie Lennox joined Hozier onstage at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, and completely captivated the entire star-studded crowd at the Staples Center in L.A., on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The legendary Eurythmics singer, 60, wore a sequin black top as she gripped the mic and powerfully belted lyrics from Hozier’s hit. During the performance of the first song, “Take Me to Church,” Lennox took advantage of the energy in the tune as she bumped and thrashed her head to the music.
The crowd went wild as the “Sweet Dreams Are Made of This” crooner put her talent on full display — masterfully crooning the lyrics of the song — before an audience including Madonna, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande. Lennox then launched into a performance of “I Put a Spell on You,” which compelled the audience to rise to its feet.
Lennox quickly became a trending topic on social media as she commanded the room with ferocity and confidence.
Lennox made headlines last fall after calling out Beyonce (and other current pop stars) as “feminist lite” after Jay Z‘s wife delivered an impeccable 16-minute show at the 2014 MTV VMAs.
“I mean, I think she’s a phenomenal artist — I just love her performances — but I’d like to sit down (with her),” Lennox said in an interview with LGBT website PrideSource. “I think I’d like to sit down with quite a few artists and talk to them. I’d like to listen to them; I’d like to hear what they truly think.”
She also called out many current pop stars for using “cheap,” “sex always sells” antics onstage. Despite her headline-making commentary, the star-studded crowd at the venue had no problem praising Lennox for her performance Sunday.
