Sony is silent no longer. The corporation, which houses Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, finally addressed the ongoing legal battle between the veteran music producer and “TiK ToK” singer Kesha on Thursday, February 25.

“Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha,” Scott A. Edelman, an attorney representing the company, told The New York Times“Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party.”

To wit, Kesha’s contract with Dr. Luke’s label is a direct deal with his production company Kasz Money, and Sony therefore is not involved even though Kemosabe Records is a subsidiary of Sony.

Kesha alleged in legal documents that Dr. Luke was abusive toward her, and once even raped her, in the decade that they’ve worked together.

Under the contract, Kesha is bound to a six-album deal, meaning that she would still need to produce several albums before the contract is fulfilled.

A barrage of fans and famous faces have come forward to offer their support for the embattled singer, 28, including Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg and most recently Adele.

The pop star wrote a note of thanks via Facebook on Wednesday, February 24, to those standing in solidarity with her, making a point that “this issue is bigger than just about me.”

“This case has never been about a renegotiation of my record contract — it was never about getting a bigger, or a better deal,” she wrote. “This is about being free from my abuser. I would be willing to work with Sony if they do the right thing and break all ties that bind me to my abuser.”

On Friday, a Manhattan judge denied Kesha an injunction to be released from her contract with Dr. Luke (nee Lukasz Gottwald), telling the court that she was going to “do the commercially reasonable thing” and allow the working relationship to continue.

Dr. Luke has since taken to Twitter to defend himself against the allegations of mental, physical and sexual abuse, telling fans that “the truth will prevail.”

“Imagine if you or somebody you loved was publicly accused of a rape you knew they didn’t do. Imagine that,” he tweeted on Monday, February 22. “I have 3 sisters, a daughter, and a son with my girlfriend, and a feminist mom who raised me right. Kesha and I made a lot of songs together and it was often good but there were creative differences at times. It’s sad that she would turn a contract negotiation into something so horrendous and untrue.”

A lawyer for the music producer told Us in a statement that the judge’s ruling is a just one.

“The New York County Supreme Court on Friday found that Kesha is already ‘free’ to record and release music without working with Dr. Luke as a producer if she doesn’t want to,” the statement reads. “Any claim that she isn’t ‘free’ is a myth.”
