All dressed up in the best money can buy!
Since her Vanity Fair cover hit stands in June, Caitlyn Jenner has made headlines not only for embracing her role as a transgender icon, but also for rocking an ultra-feminine sense of style. And on Sunday, July 12, Watch What Happens Live guests Laverne Cox and Andre Leon Talley dished on just what they think about the latter.
In response to a caller question about 65-year-old Jenner’s fashion choices, Cox, 31, said, “I think she looks great. I love what she’s wearing. I think she recently wore [Herve] Leger—I wear Leger a lot. Go Caitlyn!”
Then former Vogue editor-at-large Talley, 65, chimed in: “I think she looks fabulous. I thought she was fabulous on the Vanity Fair cover. And I think she looks like the perfect wealthy, affluent white woman who’s privileged—and that’s important, [because] she comes from that kind of background. I think she looks fabulous.”
Fabulous indeed. In addition to the Herve Leger LBD Cox referenced, Jenner has been spotted out in a navy blue lace dress, a leopard shirtdress, and a bedazzled miniskirt (which she purchased at Patricia Field‘s NYC shop, in addition to a whole slew of candy-colored goodies), to name just a few of her street-style ensembles.
But while Cox saluted Jenner’s preppy pieces, she also stressed the importance of looking beyond the surface. “The [focus on style] is part of the culture that we live in, with women who are celebrities. I mean, I’m here, you know, in clothes that have been picked out for me by a stylist,” the Orange Is the New Black actress said.
But she added, “I think it’s important, particularly when we talk about women—and trans women even more particularly—that we focus on who the person is beyond what we look like. I like to think I have a lot more to offer beyond what I look like.”
