Shout-out to the moms! J.K. Simmons won big at the 87th Annual Academy Awards, and took a special moment out of his acceptance speech to praise the mothers of the world.

The veteran TV, film, and stage star, who nabbed the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Whiplash, opened his speech by recognizing his wife and the mother of his own children, Michelle Schumacher. Simmons, 60, then moved on to his kids, telling them that they are "extraordinary human beings" and "a reflection of your mother."

His family inspired a message of thanks to all moms and dads, as Simmons then directed viewers to reach out to their parents.

"If I may, call your mom," the Spider-Man star told the crowd at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 22. "If you're lucky enough to have parents or two alive on this planet… Don't text, don't email."

"Call them on the phone tell them you love them," the Michigan-born star continued. "Talk to them for as long as they want to hear you. Thank you, mom and dad."

Nominated for the first time at the Oscars 2015, Simmons has been celebrated for his work in the drama Whiplash. He beat out Robert Duvall for The Judge, Ethan Hawke for Boyhood, Edward Norton for Birdman, and Mark Ruffalo for Foxcatcher to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and previously took home the Golden Globe, BAFTA Award, and SAG Award for the film.
