So adorkable! Zooey Deschanel has finally revealed the name of her daughter — Elsie Otter. The New Girl actress opened up about her 3-month-old to reporters while attending the Rock the Kasbah premiere in NYC on Monday, Oct. 19.
“Zooey was gushing about how in love with her daughter she was all night,” a source tells Us Weekly.
The Driftless Area star, 35, and her husband, Jacob Pechenik, welcomed their first child together this past July. Two months earlier, on June 21, the couple secretly tied the knot in Texas.
Deschanel has yet to debut her little one to the world, but she did explain how she and Pechenik came up with the name.
“We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters, they’re very sweet and they’re also smart,” she said during a Today show appearance on Tuesday, Oct. 20. “They use tools…they hold hands while they sleep, there’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals.”
As previously reported, Deschanel is currently on maternity leave, and will miss several New Girl episodes. In her absence, Megan Fox will be joining the cast.
“Jess gets on a jury and she’s sequestered,” Deschanel explained of her character’s new story line. “And during that time the roommates rent out Jess’ room to Reagan, who is Megan Fox. So that will be super fun. I have a few episodes where I’ll be gone because of maternity leave. Megan is going to carry the torch!”
