Days before he was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison on child pornography charges, Jared Fogle finalized his divorce from his wife, Kathleen, on Nov. 16.
In new documents obtained by Us Weekly, the couple’s marriage was said to be “irretrievably broken and dissolved.” Kathleen has returned to her maiden name of McLaughlin, and she is currently keeping their two children, Brady, 4, and Quinn, 2, in a separate state from their father.
In a document written by her counsel, James Reed, Kathleen noted that when she learned her ex-husband, 38, had pleaded guilty to child pornography charges she was “shocked and disturbed to learn of these abhorring developments, and she has been working tirelessly since in an attempt to provide a sense of security and normality for the parties’ young children.”
After traveling out of the family’s home state of Indiana on a pre-scheduled trip, Kathleen decided to keep her kids away from the media attention surrounding her ex-husband’s case. According to documents filed by both Fogle and Kathleen, the father of two has not seen his children in person since August, but talks to them daily on the phone, the papers reveal.
“The reality is that, due to Father’s significant travel, he did not play much of a role in the day-to-day lives of children even prior to becoming the focus of a criminal investigation,” Kathleen added through her counsel, Reed.
Fogle has contested Kathleen’s request for sole custody and has also completed a “Children Cope With Divorce” class, which he took back in August.
