Cate Blanchett Opens Up About Adopting Daughter Edith: “We’re Besotted”

Cate Blanchett adopted a little girl named Edith earlier this month.

Expanding her family and making a difference! Cate Blanchett confirmed that she and her husband of 17 years, Andrew Upton, had adopted a little girl named Edith Vivian Patricia Upton earlier this month.

For the first time since the news went public, the Oscar winner, 45, spoke about her decision to Australia’s Sky News at the Sunday, March 15, premiere of Disney’s new live-action Cinderella, in which she plays the Evil Stepmother. (The well-reviewed film made $70 million in its opening weekend in the U.S.)

"Fourth time around, it's extraordinary,” the mom of sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, 6, said. "We're besotted."

After having three children naturally, Blanchett and Upton made the important decision to adopt a little girl. 

"There's a lot of children out there who don't have the good fortune that our biological children do, so it's wonderful," she said. "It's wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold."

A source told Us Weekly that the couple, “especially wanted a girl to even out the household.”
