Jared Fogle Sentenced to 15 Years, 8 Months in Prison on Child Pornography Charges: Details

Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle arrives at the federal courthouse in Indianapolis, Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015.

UPDATE: Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison, USA Today reports. His attorneys had been seeking a sentence of just five years, while prosecutors previously said they would not be asking for more than 12.5.

According to Indy Star, reporting live from the courtroom, Fogle made a statement to the judge before his sentencing.

"For most of my adult life, I've been in the spotlight, trying to be a role model," the paper quotes him as saying. "I became dependent on alcohol, pornography, and prostitutes . . . Not a day will go by when I don't think about what I did to [the victims]."

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is awaiting sentencing in federal court after pleading guilty to child pornography and sex crime charges on Thursday, Nov. 19. Appearing before Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, the 38-year-old admitted to paying for sex with minors and knowingly receiving illicit photos and videos of underage youths, the Associated Press reported.

Fogle, in a black suit and red tie, arrived at the courthouse shortly after 8 a.m. local time on Thursday. During the hearing, the judge read the details of the case against Fogle and heard testimony from a forensic psychiatrist who'd evaluated him.

The allegations against Fogle first came to light back in July, when federal authorities raided his home as part of a child pornography investigation also involving Russell Taylor, the former executive director of Fogle's Jared Foundation.

In the aftermath of the raid, Subway cut ties with its former poster boy. A company spokesman told Us Weekly at the time, "Jared continues to cooperate with authorities and he expects no actions to be forthcoming."

In August, however, the U.S. attorney's office released documents accusing Fogle of "engaging in sex acts with minors and receiving child pornography." According to the Associated Press, the documents alleged that Fogle traveled to New York with the purpose of paying for said sex acts, and also that he knowingly received child pornography from Taylor.

Per the AP, Fogle agreed to plead guilty to the charges. Prosecutors later filed papers stating that he would pay $1.4 million in restitution and register as a sex offender. He was also expected to serve between five and 12.5 years in prison.

Amid the allegations, Fogle's wife, Katie, filed for divorce, citing an "irretrievable breakdown of the marriage." The couple married in 2010 and share two young children, Brady and Quinn.
