David Justice: “I’m Not Trying to Be the Voice” of Halle Berry’s Exes

Halle Berry's first ex-husband, David Justice, elaborated about his Twitter rant from Tuesday, Nov. 3 -- get the details.

The injustice. Halle Berry‘s first ex-husband, David Justice, opened up to Access Hollywood on Tuesday, Nov. 3, about his now-deleted Twitter rant from earlier that afternoon, which included a warning for her soon-to-be ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.

“I’m not trying to be the voice of Halle’s exes,” explained the former pro baseball player, 49, who was married to Berry for five years from 1992 to 1997. “What I was trying to do is let everybody understand that I am in the community coaching kids from baseball to basketball to football. I’m trying to be a role model and I don’t want these kids and my kids’ friends reading [reports] and then everyone looking at me like, ‘I didn’t know coach did that to some woman.’ I don’t want parents going, ‘I didn’t know my kid’s coach did that to some woman.'”

Earlier that day, Justice addressed reports suggesting that he had physically abused the Oscar winner during their marriage. “Reading the latest Halle Berry Reports,it wasn’t me who hit Halle causing the ear damage,” Justice wrote in his tweets. “She was mad at me leaving the relationship so she and her Hollywood Team just tried to destroy my character. It had to be my fault, right?”

In his barrage of tweets, Justice also referred to Berry’s past exes Eric Benet, Gabriel Aubry, and Martinez. “Yup..Me,Eric,Gabriel and Olivier were all her ‘Knight in Shining Armor’,until it ends..Then we all become the worst guys in history,” the athlete continued.

Benet chimed in soon after. “My man at @23davidjustice is tweeting some truth dis’ mornin’!” he wrote. Berry and the R&B crooner were married from 2001 to 2005 — but their relationship ended after it was revealed that Benet had cheated on her two years into their marriage. He subsequently checked into rehab for sex addiction, but later told New York Magazine that the end of their romance was due to him “making some stupid-ass, stupid-ass mistakes.”

Justice clarified to Access Hollywood, though, that he is in no way buddy-buddy with Benet — or any of Berry’s exes. “I am not in contact with Halle or any of the boyfriends, nor am I trying to be,” he said. “I’m not that dude.”

In fact, he’s simply trying to clear his name — especially since he has three kids. “Not only have I never hit Halle, Halle has never verbally said that I hit her. What Halle said was that she had been in abusive relationships. Everyone at that time assumed it must have been me because I was the only guy at that point in time that everyone knew she had dated or married,” he told Access Hollywood on Tuesday night.

“Twenty years ago, I didn’t have any kids. Twenty years ago, I was just trying to get away from a bad situation. A lot of things were said about me that [weren’t] true, that [weren’t] a part of the relationship,” he continued. “Because we are in the social media era, something like this gets reported and if I don’t say anything, people will take that as it must have been true. I can’t have that. I have a 15-, 13-, 11-year-old and I’m in my community coaching, trying to be a good role model.”

To those accusing him of capitalizing on Berry’s fame, Justice says that is not his intention. “It’s not about me trying to get my name back in the media. I’m not trying to get a reality show. I just felt like I needed to say something,” Justice continued in his interview. “I don’t like the fact that when I’m brought up there has to be this stigma of this alleged abuse.”

Justice also took to Twitter on Tuesday, and thanked Berry for “finally squashing all the rumors about their relationship.” However, it seems he misinterpreted a TMZ report that cited sources under the headline, “Halle Berry: David Justice Is Way Off … She Never Said He Was Abusive.”

A source has told Us Weekly that Berry has yet to comment on the situation or Justice’s tweets in any way.
