Close, but not quite. Bella Thorne made headlines in November when she blasted an unnamed Hollywood “mean girl” in her Seventeen magazine cover story, but the Big Sky star told HuffPost Live on Tuesday, December 15, that there was a “little part” missing from that interview.
The statement that caused all the hubbub? “I have a mean girl. She’s in the business, and she’s very, very mean. I stay away from her at all costs. I never say hello to her,” the 18-year-old said in the December 2015/January 2016 issue. “Her siblings are not mean like she is. It’s just her. One of the reasons I don’t like her is because she’s been a billionaire since she was very little, and she’s never had to work for anything in her life.”
The actress said that it’s not that she dislikes the unnamed starlet because of her money. “It’s not I hate her because she’s a billionaire. I don’t like her because she is a billionaire and makes sure everyone knows that she is, which is like, I didn’t grow up with money or anything like that. And even if I did, I’m not very much like that,” Thorne said.
“But it’s not necessarily about one person,” she added. “It’s letting girls know that what they’re going through in life — ‘cause there’s always a mean girl in school — it’s in Hollywood too. … Our life is not so overly glamorous. It’s exactly what you’re going through, but there’s photos taken of it.”
She emphasized that it was really more about bullying. “If somebody wasn’t flaunting it in a mean way to make other people feel bad about themselves, then I would not mind it. … It’s when people do it in certain types of ways that make you not appreciate them as much.”
Thorne added that she, too, has had people make her feel like she doesn’t fit in. “I think everybody kind of goes through that at some point in your life,” she said. “It’s not something you should be ashamed of. You should be, ‘Hell yeah, I worked for what I have!’”
