We really really want this to happen! Mel B is hinting that the Spice Girls might be reuniting for the iconic pop group’s 20th anniversary in 2016.
“It is our 20th anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate,” Scary Spice, 40, said on the U.K. television special Alan Carr’s New Year’s Specstacular, The Express reported on Sunday, December 27. “So hopefully something will be happening pretty soon. I can’t tell you what it is yet!”
Rumors have swirled recently that the Spice Girls could very well be getting back together, and Mel joked that she was the one to blame.
“I think I’m the one putting all the rumors out there,” the America’s Got Talent judge joked.
Brown also dished on a possible reunion in September, telling Meredith Vieira, “There’s nothing to really spill because nothing has been announced, nothing’s official. I mean, yes, we are in talks because it’s our 20th anniversary. And I want something to happen. I’m forcing them a little bit, but yeah. I’ve been saying it for five years, ‘We are reuniting. We are, aren’t we?’”
Earlier this month, another Spice — Sporty (Melanie Chisholm) — performed the girls’ 1997 hit ballad “Too Much” on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show for BBC radio.
And while the tune — which opened the group’s 1997 comedy, Spice World —might be 18 years old, she put a fresh, new acoustic spin on it!
The group previously reunited at the closing ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics, where they performed a medley of their hits.
