“A” may be out of their lives, but the main characters on Pretty Little Liars are still not sitting pretty.

ABC Family has released new artwork from the upcoming second half of the hit drama’s sixth season, which reveals that the five heroes have changed dramatically — in looks and attitude — following the five-year time jump.

The image appears to offer some subtle clues on where things are headed, with the batch of new episodes set to introduce a brand-new, ever-terrifying villain. Could the soil pouring out of Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) car be a hint at the terror that the ladies are soon to face?

Alison (Sasha Pieterse) seems to have changed the most, which makes sense, given that she is now a teacher at Rosewood High under the new name of Mrs. Rollins.

There also may be some bad blood between the central characters, with Aria (Lucy Hale) glaring off into the distance, away from her pals.

Shay Mitchell (Emily) spoke to Us Weekly at Delta Air Lines’ Holiday in the Hangar event on Tuesday, Dec. 2, about Em’s move to the West Coast and the surprises that she brings back with her.

“Emily is coming back with the biggest secret, and I think out of all the girls, she’s really had to mature a lot these past five years,” Mitchell says.

The show went on hiatus after revealing in August that the nefarious “A” was Charlotte DiLaurentis (Vanessa Ray), formerly known as Charles DiLaurentis. After she turned herself in, the series skipped ahead five years to show the Liars bursting into Ali’s classroom in an effort to save her.

Pretty Little Liars returns Jan. 12 on Freeform, the new name for ABC Family.
