Andie MacDowell Rants: I Was Downgraded From First Class to ‘Tourist’ Seats Because of My Dog

Andie McDowell

It's called flying coach? Actress Andie MacDowell took to Twitter Friday, January 22, to complain about being downgraded on American Airlines from first class to "tourist" because of her dog.

"@AmericanAir HELP I paid for first class & they put me in tourist because of my dog," the Magic Mike XXL star, 57, wrote on Twitter. "I pre-booked & paid for." MacDowell accompanied her complaint with a smiling selfie that included her fellow passengers on coach.

She then followed up with a rundown of what transpired during her layover in Charlotte, North Carolina, saying the airline employee who refused her first class was "the rudest person I have ever had to deal with."

"I was checked 1a when I left LA they told me they would reassigned me Charlotte first class he did not want to help," she wrote. "There was no excuse why the guy would not just let me ask someone to change seats he had a power trip."

While some sympathized with the Groundhog Day star via Twitter, others railed against MacDowell for her outburst. "Oh so sorry my queen. How dare you be forced to sit with the rubbish in 'TOURIST,'" one person wrote, which prompted MacDowell to defend herself.

"Not how I feel, I'm not superior at all just wish I hadn't payed for first very expense," she replied. In another response, the star sniped: "Lord honey hate on me if it pleases you, I paid for a flight to volunteer for literacy & didn't get what I paid for."

Another Twitter user was similarly offended by how she described coach. "I understand but I think tourist class was a poor choice of words," the person tweeted.

"I think tourist sounds more glamorous than coach," MacDowell replied. "I had no idea other felt it sounded less because I fly tourist often."

MacDowell continued to defend herself throughout the weekend, and eventually shared her regrets on Sunday, January 24. "Never, complain on Twitter & don't pay for first class on American Airlines," she told her followers. "Only express gratitude…can we move on now."
