Kenneth Alan Amyx, the Texas man who was charged this past weekend with the murder of his girlfriend, Jennifer Streit-Spears, claimed that the pair had a suicide pact.

According to The New York Times, Amyx, 45, told police that he fatally stabbed Streit-Spears, 43, after the couple agreed to stab each other until they both died. But Streit-Spears “chickened out” and he ultimately had to “finish her off,” he stated in the affidavit.

Amyx said that he and Streit-Spears, who have been friends for years but only started dating four months ago, made the unusual agreement after a morning of drinking.

In the affidavit, he claimed that his girlfriend grew weak and asked him to “hit it … harder,” which he did. He also took her hand, which held a knife, and cut his own throat.

Officials were alerted to the crime when Amyx posted two graphic images on Streit-Spears’ Facebook page on Sunday, May 29 — one, depicting Streit-Spears nude and with her neck cut, and another, a selfie of himself covered in blood.

“Please pray for us and love you all,” he captioned the since-deleted photos.

When relatives of Streit-Spears saw the alarming photos, they instantly alerted Facebook and asked the social media website to remove the images. According to the Times, it took 36 hours to have the pictures taken down.

“I did ask them to remove it several times,” Streit-Spears’ sister told The Daily Dot. “They told me I could block Jennifer if I didn’t like what she posted and gave me other similar options.”

The pair were discovered in Streit-Spears’ Plano, Texas, apartment, naked and with slashes on their bodies.

At the time of the murder, Amyx was also wanted in Rockwall County for continued sexual abuse of a child, and in Dallas County for indecent exposure to a child.

According to the Times, Amyx called his father shortly after posting the images to Facebook and said, “This is Ken. I love you. We’ve cut our throats.”

Amyx is being charged with murder, and has a bond set at $600,000 for his collective charges.
