Kendall Jenner’s Tattoo Artist Speaks: Find Out the Meaning Behind Her Ink

Kendall Jenner's Tattoo Artist Speaks: Find Out the Meaning

Getting inked! Despite claims that she didn’t want to get a tattoo because she has a weird thing about "forever," Kendall Jenner has now been tatted up twice, both times by the same artist: NYC-based JonBoy.

The body ink expert recently opened up about his experiences inking up Jenner and her celeb friends (like Hailey and Ireland Baldwin) and shed surprising insight on her design choices (like what’s up with that little white dot?).

JonBoy—who prefers to call his work a craft, rather than art—vividly remembers when Jenner, 19, came on June 16 with her crew to get her white dot tat. "I don’t really [have interesting stories] other than tattooing Kendall Jenner and putting a little white dot on her. That was different for me, but at the same time, that’s what she wanted. So that’s what I’m going to give her," he told Refinery 29.

But why a white dot? "To her, it’s the little things that matter," JonBoy said, adding that Jenner prefers white ink (both her white dot tattoo and her most recent broken heart tattoo are in the subtle color) for a pretty good reason. "The white color was because she didn’t want it to show with modeling and all that,” he said. "It was a fun night. Hailey Baldwin was there, too, and I’ve tattooed her a few times; she’s tattooed me as well."

In fact, there’s a video of Baldwin, 18, giving the sought-after craftsman some ink of his own on his Instagram account. "Thanks @haileybaldwin for tattooing me!" the artist captioned the vid.

And Baldwin is really the reason JonBoy has most of his star clientele. "When it comes to celebrities, Hailey Baldwin has really brought them my way. We go to church together, so that’s how we know each other, and she keeps bringing me her crew," the tattooist said. "That’s how Kendall got here, that’s how her cousin [Ireland Baldwin, 19] got here. Justin Bieber will be coming through here sometime, as soon as he’s back in New York. Carlos Leon is another guy I tattoo all the time; he’s Madonna's ex."

But the accomplished ink creator—whose specialty is minimalist script and geometric characters—revealed that it doesn’t matter whether the client in his chair is famous or not. "I treat them all like celebrities," he said, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t grateful for the spike of interest in his studio. "Because I’ve tattooed people like that, they’ve brought me so much business because of their following and influence in the young generation. It’s amazing. I’m busy; I’m booked out because of those guys, and it’s awesome."
