UPDATE: Najim Laachraoui, the only surviving suspect from Brussels’ terror attacks on Tuesday, March 22, may still be on the run this morning, Wednesday, March 23, despite multiple reports from Belgian news outlets saying he’d been arrested.
Early reports on Wednesday indicated that Laachraoui had been taken into custody. According to ABC, however, the suspect is still on the run. The Telegraph reports that police arrested a man in the Brussels district, but his identity has yet to be confirmed.
Laachraoui is thought to be the third man, seen above wearing white, in the CCTV footage taken before the Zaventem airport attack, which was released to the media yesterday.
As Us Weekly reported previously, Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui, also in the CCTV footage, were named earlier today as the two ISIS airport suicide bombers.
Laachraoui was on the run until his reported arrest this morning, after leaving his suitcase, which was packed with explosives but failed to detonate, at Zaventem airport, and walking calmly out of the terminal shortly before the other explosions.
Twin explosions at the airport and another at a metro station on Tuesday left about 34 dead and 250 wounded.
The 24-year-old is believed to have been the master bombmaker, and is also suspected of rigging up the suicide vests used in the Paris massacres.
