The heart won’t lie. Reba McEntire revealed that she never wanted to divorce her now–ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock, during an interview with CMT’s Cody Alan on Tuesday, March 1.
"The divorce was not my idea. I didn't want it in any shape, form or fashion," McEntire, 60, said. "So it was really hard to make the adjustment, when someone's not happy. I just want everybody to be happy in their lives, because our lives are too short to be miserable."
When asked what helped her get through the difficult split from her manager and producer, 59, the country star was quick to credit her faith.
"The thing that got me through this change in life, is number one, God," she explained. "I prayed every day to help me have the strength to move one foot in front of the other, and continue on with what I'm supposed to be doing … and then with my team … and my friends, my family, my girlfriends."
"You know, you just got to have a great team of people around you that you love, and they love you, and I'm very blessed to have those people,” the “Just a Little Love” singer added. "I thank God for it all."
As Us Weekly previously reported, McEntire and Blackstock announced the end of their 26-year marriage on August 3, 2015, in a joint statement. They finalized their divorce the following October.
"Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other," the statement from Big Machine Label Group read. "They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time."
McEntire and Blackstock share one son together, race-car driver Shelby Blackstock, 26. Narvel is also the father of three other kids from a previous relationship, including Brandon Blackstock, who is married to Kelly Clarkson.
